Event Planning: A Growing Industry

The global event planning industry is projected to reach $1.135 trillion by 2026, showing remarkable expansion and business importance. Specifically, the corporate event market is expected to nearly double — from $330 billion in 2023 to $730 billion by 2035, growing at about 7 % annually. Event professionals are increasingly investing in tech — 63 % plan to increase their event technology budgets to better manage and promote events.

ROI, Budgets & Planning Challenges

Companies aren’t just spending — they’re tracking results and planning smarter. On average, every $1 spent on corporate events brings back about $5.81 in ROI — a strong argument for investing in face-to-face and hybrid engagements. Despite this ROI, 78 % of event planners say budget constraints are their biggest challenge. The average corporate event budget in the U.S. is around $33,200, with attendee spend on food and beverage at about $50 per person. 86 % of event marketers say analytics significantly influence how they plan and evaluate events — pointing to a future of data-driven event design.

The Power of In-Person Events

After remote and hybrid work models transformed the workplace, many companies are doubling down on live experiences. 88 % of companies are returning to in-person events and team gatherings ― a major shift post-pandemic. Half of those companies note that team-building events are among the first they plan to reconnect employees. 79 % of employees say they look forward most to events because they can meet colleagues and build real relationships.

Team-Building Activities: Who, How Often & What

Team-building isn’t just fun — it’s frequent and strategic. 81 % of companies are organizing more face-to-face events today than in the past year.

Among popular formats:
70 % organize team lunches or dinners
About 50 % plan structured team-building activities
46 % include after-work social events
44 % organize workshops to engage employees.

Many teams meet regularly. Monthly get-togethers are most common. Some teams connect quarterly or even weekly — showing that team building is a rhythm, not a one-off.

The Curious Case of Flight LPT859

No one knew exactly when things went wrong on Flight LPT859—only that they did, and spectacularly so.

What began as a straightforward team-building exercise quickly turned into a full-blown mystery. Or was it just a mystery all along!? The briefing was simple enough: solve the problems, save the flight, beat the clock. But within minutes, alarms (imaginary, but loudly announced) were blaring, clues weren’t lining up, and someone was absolutely convinced they had cracked the case… only to realize they were holding the lunch menu.

The clock was ticking. Fast.

Teams scrambled through puzzles, codes, and cryptic messages scattered across the “cabin.” Someone shouted out a theory that sounded brilliant until another teammate gently pointed out it contradicted the laws of physics. Another group was stuck on a riddle so long that silence fell—until suddenly, inspiration struck and the energy shifted from panic to triumph. Did they get a hint .....no, of course not!

That’s when it happened.

One teammate, overcome with excitement at finally solving a critical clue, jumped up and celebrated. "Like a shiny star, he burst into dance. Well kindof.” It wasn’t graceful (so it was said). It wasn’t planned. But it was unforgettable—and oddly motivating. Who knew the accounts department had it in them!! (ok, ok, I know it wasn't the accounts department, but I had to use the stereotype for the joke!)

With time slipping away, collaboration kicked into high gear. Ideas flew. Roles naturally formed. Someone connected a clue that had been overlooked from the start (always read the rules!). Another spotted a tiny detail that unlocked the next phase of the mystery. Laughter mixed with urgency as the final pieces came together.

With seconds to spare, Flight LPT859 was saved.

Cheers erupted. High-fives were exchanged. The mystery was solved—not by any one person, but by a team willing to think fast, communicate clearly, and laugh through the chaos.

In the end, Flight LPT859 wasn’t just about puzzles or pressure. It was a reminder that even in the most frantic moments, teamwork, creativity, and a sense of humor can turn confusion into success—and make the journey just as memorable as the destination.

Summer: A Season of Connection, Growth, and Team Building

Summer is more than just a change of seasons—it was a time to reconnect, recharge, and strengthen the bonds that make great teams thrive. As the days grow longer and the weather invites us outdoors, organizations embrace the opportunity to bring people together through meaningful events and engaging team-building activities. And we hope they do it with us at PW Events.

Why Summer Is Ideal for Team Building

Summer naturally lends itself to collaboration and creativity. With lighter moods, flexible schedules, and more outdoor options, teams are often more open to trying new experiences. This makes it the perfect time to step away from routine tasks and focus on relationships, communication, and shared goals.

Throughout the summer, many companies make the most of this energy and invest in activities that not only boost morale but also reinforce company culture and values.

Highlights from Summer Events

1. Outdoor Team Experiences From park picnics and beach days to hiking trips and outdoor games, teams took advantage of the sunshine to get moving together. These informal settings encouraged authentic conversations, broke down silos, and helped colleagues connect beyond their usual roles.

2. Collaborative Challenges and Workshops Escape rooms/mysteries, problem-solving challenges, and creative workshops were popular choices this summer. These activities emphasized teamwork, critical thinking, and trust—skills that translate directly into stronger day-to-day collaboration at work.

3. Company Retreats and Offsites The summer also saw a rise in short retreats and offsite meetings. Combining strategy sessions with social activities allowed teams to align on goals while also celebrating progress and achievements in a relaxed environment.

4. Wellness-Focused Activities Recognizing the importance of well-being, some organizations opted a slightly more holistic approach included yoga sessions, mindfulness workshops, and wellness challenges as part of their summer events. These initiatives showed a commitment to employee health and created space for reflection and balance. It is not for everyone, and a few roll their eyes. But by the end of it most seem to go home with a smile.

The Impact on Teams

The events and team-building activities of the summer delivered lasting benefits, I think it is reasonable to say. Employees at some debrief sessions reported stronger connections with colleagues, improved communication, and a renewed sense of motivation. Feedback after 1 month from leaders mentioned increased engagement, better collaboration, and a more positive team dynamic overall.

Most importantly, these experiences reminded everyone that successful teams are built on trust, shared experiences, and a sense of belonging—not just on performance metrics.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, the lessons from summer continue to resonate. Investing time in events and team building isn’t just a seasonal perk—it’s a strategic choice that supports long-term success. Whether through large-scale events or simple shared moments, creating opportunities for teams to connect will always be worth the effort. When people come together with purpose, the results can be both meaningful and memorable :)

Winter Moments That Brought Our Team Together

Winter has a special way of slowing things down and drawing people closer. During the winter season, team events and activities shifted from outdoor adventures to cozy, laughter-filled experiences that emphasized connection, creativity, and shared warmth—both literal and figurative.

Embracing the Season

Cold weather didn’t stop the fun; it simply changed the setting. Fires crackled, mugs were filled, and conversations flowed more easily when everyone gathered indoors.

Occasionally we ventured outside, with overnight activities. At one particularly memorable event, we overheard: “The cocoa was warm, but not as hot as my shoes, which I left about 5cm from the fire”—a small mishap that quickly turned into a running joke for the rest of the day, earning the person the nickname Hotfoot.

Winter activities give everyone permission to relax, be themselves, and enjoy the moment without the pressure of packed schedules.

Laughter, Learning, and Lightbulb Moments

Games, puzzles, and collaborative challenges were a big hit this winter. Teams worked through riddles and problem-solving activities that sparked both friendly competition and lots of laughs. At one moment of reflection: “I laughed so hard I almost split my pants” - proving that sometimes the best team-building outcome is simply shared joy.

Not every challenge was solved right away, though—and that was part of the fun. “I was stumped for a while and then a lightbulb came on, lol.” These moments reminded us that persistence, teamwork, and a little humor go a long way, especially when tackling challenges together.

Cozy Connections That Last

Winter team-building activities created space for meaningful conversations and genuine bonding. Whether gathered around a fire, collaborating on a challenge, or laughing at unexpected moments, teams strengthened trust and understanding in ways that carry forward into everyday work.

These winter events showed that team building doesn’t need grand gestures—sometimes all it takes is a warm drink, a shared laugh, and the willingness to enjoy the season together.

As we look ahead, the memories from this winter serve as a reminder that even in the coldest months, connection and collaboration can thrive.
